Iron hydroxide is a reddish brown amorphous powder or gel. The relative density is 3.4 ~ 3.9. Heating gradually decomposing, below 500℃ is completely dehydrated into iron oxide. Insoluble in water, ethanol and ether, soluble in acid. The solubility in the acid depends on the length of time the product is made. The newly made products are easily soluble in inorganic and organic acids. After placing for a few time, they are insoluble. Slightly dissolved in alkali solution to form iron (Ⅲ) ate, such as NaFeO2. Such ferric (Ⅲ) salts can be readily prepared from a molten mixture of ferric (Ⅲ) oxide and alkali metal oxides, hydroxides, or carbonate.
